Project: Lee’s Summit Road Improvements
Client: City of Lee’s Summit
The cities of Lee’s Summit and Kansas City, Missouri, have long recognized the importance of enhancing Lee’s Summit Road from US-40 to I-470. As an area with a growing population, greater connectivity and accessibility were needed for neighborhoods, businesses, surrounding cities, and the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport. Through open communication and listening to the public, the final corridor includes many amenities desired by the public, including bike route designation and a multi-use trail for cyclists and pedestrians. By widening the road in many places, updating lighting and drainage and enhancing the alignment, users now can travel safer with better accessibility. From the onset of the project, communication, safety, and minimal disruption to the environment and the community were key goals and through teamwork, the project team succeeded in all aspects.
