Grand Award – IMEG Corp., St. Louis
Project: The Museum at the Gateway Arch
Client: Gateway Arc Park Foundation
IMEG Corp. provided mechanical, electrical, and telecommunications design for the Gateway Arch Park Foundation’s renovation and expansion of The Museum at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. The $108.9 million project entirely replaced the original museum and consisted of a 100,000-square-foot renovation and a 50,000-square-foot expansion of the underground facility. All system infrastructure was updated, exhibits and galleries were modernized, and new spaces were added, including a learning center and a 2,000-square-foot west entrance facing Luther Ely Smith Square and the heart of downtown. The engineering for the project faced several challenges and complexities, including historic preservation requirements, ambitious energy goals, and collaboration with multiple stakeholders – including more than a dozen consultants from across the U.S. and Europe. The museum, which opened July 3, 2018, complies with the sustainability guidelines of the National Park Service, is approximately 20 percent more efficient than ASHRAE 90.1-2007, and is pursuing LEED Gold certification.
