Grand Award – Bartlett & West, Inc., Jefferson City
Project: James Bridge Repalcement Over the North Fork River
Client: Missouri Department of Transportation
The Missouri Department of Transportation selected Bartlett & West to design the replacement structure for State Route PP, after it was destroyed by a record flood on the North Fork River just a day earlier. The complete bidding package was submitted to MoDOT twenty-four days later. The bridge was constructed and re-opened to traffic by mid-October. An expedited solution was critical for nearby residents, since nearly all river crossings in the area were either destroyed or impassable. Insufficient access and long unpaved detours posed problems not only for residents, but for EMS, fire departments, local schools, and rural post offices. MoDOT needed a firm that could independently deliver the project quickly and work through the numerous complications associated with environmental and right of way issues. By working directly with the decision makers at MoDOT, the project development time was shortened considerably and the project was completed successfully.
